A novel approach to enterprise UX at SaaS scale

Dealing with enormous data complexity, true interaction design challenges
When most people look at the ocean, they see water. Fugro however sees layers of geodata. With their Virgeo platform, they set out to surface that data faster than ever before, without drowning in delivery chaos or physically handing over hard drives.
Each geodata project comes with different data standards, delivery formats, and folder structures, making consistency nearly impossible. Input often stayed trapped for too long in inboxes or side conversations, disconnected from the files it was meant to improve.
Fugro’s idea was bold: improve how geodata gets delivered, understood, and reported. We supported that ambition and translated the product strategy into a clear user-driven design direction with them.
We started with mockups, helping the team visualize what Virgeo could be. What initially began as strategy and innovation support quickly evolved into something deeper: shaping an MVP and contributing to the foundations of how the product would actually work.
Working closely together with the Virgeo Product owner, we facilitated research, testing, and continuous discovery. We involved internal stakeholders and external users early and often, ensuring that the product aligned not just with Fugro's business goals, but with real-world workflows and expectations.
At first, design thinking was new territory for many. But over time, the mindset shifted: from assumptions to insights, and from output to real product impact.
The result isn’t a standalone product, but a comprehensive platform designed to support a future-proof ecosystem of multiple applications. Virgeo is designed specifically for the complexity of geospatial data, offering secure delivery, interactive reporting, and map-based interface in one connected environment.
No other platform does what Virgeo now does: it’s part data browser, part delivery tool, a combination of enterprise UX and SaaS—deeply integrated into Fugro’s workflows and designed for the realities of their domain. It has become a key component of their company-wide digital transformation.
